“Discovering that I was expecting twins was a wonderful surprise, but also a slightly daunting prospect!  My main worries were…how am I going to survive the birth (after a gruelling 25 hour labour with my first child), and, will I ever get any sleep?  I ploughed through books about twins, looking for survival tips and they all said ‘hire some help’.  Fortunately, a friend passed me a leaflet on the Surrey and Sussex Doulas…..this looked promising.  I was on the phone immediately….a very friendly voice answered and there was no looking back!

After my first meeting with Claire, the grey clouds parted and I suddenly started to feel much more relaxed about everything- she was full of excellent, practical advice and was very reassuring about the impending birth.  We arranged for her to be with us at the birth and to also provide postnatal care- she was very accommodating to fit in with the hours that suited us.

Finally, the birth date came and I knew that I was going to be fine with Claire there to support us.  And I was!  I can honestly look back and say that it was a great experience.  I managed to deliver both little Alister and Olivia naturally and I felt totally in control.  With her midwifery knowledge, Claire explained all of the procedures to myself and my husband during the labour and kept me calm during each contraction- this in turn made the delivery much smoother and quicker.

The aftercare Claire gave us was invaluable.  She reliably arrived at our house with a friendly smile every day which always cheered up our sleep deprived moods.  With Claire there we had the chance to catch up on some much needed sleep whilst she busied herself with feeding, nappy changing, bathing and dressing our little bundles of joy, plus entertaining our 3 year old!  Claire also helped us keep on top of our housework which we would never have been able to cope with by ourselves.

Not only did Claire care for us, she was also great company and became a good friend.  Thanks to Claire, the twins are now in a very good routine and are very contended babies and we are enjoying them very much.  Thankyou Claire!
